#SaveOurSkin – Government Funding for Eczema Needed

“I’m sending an SOS because my eczema is agony. This disease has taken away my quality of life and is a financial and emotional burden. I wouldn’t wish eczema upon my worst enemy.” One of many similar quotes from an Aussie with eczema.

#SaveOurSkin – Have You Signed the Petition?

On World Atopic Eczema Day – September 14, we launched a petition that we hope will be a turning point to everyone in Australia that is impacted by eczema.

We will lobby our State and Federal Health Systems to recognise and provide dedicated support to the millions of Australians suffering the long term physical, psychological and financial impacts of eczema.

If you haven’t already, please show your support by signing this petition #SaveOurSkin.

Please take the challenge – share the petition with at least 5 people you know. The more signatures we gather, the stronger our voice and together we have a greater power to really change lives.

We are deeply grateful to the 800+ supporters who have already signed and shared the petition. Many have also shared their personal challenges that eczema brings to their lives.

More Work is Needed to Understand the Australian Landscape

But how can we help eczema patients when we don’t currently have a thorough understanding of the prevalence and burden of disease in Australia? Earlier this year, we were fortunate to receive a funding grant to support dedicated research into the current state of the eczema community in Australia.

Equipped with a thorough understanding of the number of Australians impacted with eczema and survey responses, we will have a better understanding of what needs to be done and how we can best help those in need.

This petition, along with the research findings will be presented to key decision makers along with our call for dedicated department funding and recognition of atopic eczema as a chronic and burdensome disease.
