Yesterday, Melanie Funk attended the ‘Future of Environmental Sustainability and Healthcare Access’ meeting. She went to listen, connect, and ensure that the eczema community has a place at the table in discussions and decisions that affect them. The speakers and attendees at this event are influential in shaping the health environment and the broader environmental impacts.

The critical question addressed was whether combating climate change has to come at the cost of access to medicines and treatments. Thankfully, the resounding message was NO. Patient safety and needs are top priorities. Caring for the environment and ensuring sustainability should be a win-win situation for everyone.

The discussions were technical at times, but the message was clear: sustainability must include the understanding that patient health and needs are critical. In a ‘circular economy’ with finite resources, there are many areas for improvement, but patient access should not be hindered in the process.
A big thank you to the organisers and sponsors of this extraordinary meeting of minds and healthcare environmental influencers.
